Micro-Ring Resonator Enables Fast, Accurate Detection of Ebola Virus
ST. LOUIS, July 28, 2022 — A diagnostic technique for the Ebola virus uses a micro-ring resonator and a biomarker to quickly identify the presence of the virus in blood samples. Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine developed the technique, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Michigan and biotech company Integrated Biotherapeutics. In tests, the micro-ring resonator sensor detected the biomarker for the virus — soluble glycoprotein (sGP) — in less than 40 min and at
Microfluidic Device with Fluorescent Sensor Detects Ebola
ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 15, 2019 — A faculty-researcher at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has developed a prototype microdevice with biosensors that can detect the Ebola virus. The microfluidic device is an automated chip with a highly sensitive fluorescence sensing unit...
Optofluidic Systems Detect Ebola, Flu Viruses
SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Nov. 16, 2015 — A chip-scale hybrid device integrates a microfluidic chip for sample preparation and an optofluidic chip for optical detection of Ebola and other viral pathogenic RNA molecules. A small, dedicated optofluidic chip was also demonstrated for the...
UV Flashlamp System Aids Ebola Disinfection
SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 5, 2014 — SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 5, 2014 — With the zap of a xenon UV flashlamp, numerous pathogens — including the Ebola virus — can be eradicated from surfaces around a room. Developed by Xenex founder Dr. Mark Stibich, a new disinfection...
Imaging Technology Could Unlock Mysteries of a Childhood Disease
ATLANTA, Jan. 2, 2014 — A superresolution imaging technique that allows the structure of a respiratory virus to be seen in living cells could help unlock the virus’s secrets, including how it enters cells and replicates, and why certain lung cells escape relatively...
