Quantum Entanglement Demonstrated Aboard Orbiting CubeSat
SINGAPORE, July 1, 2020 — An international research team led by the National University of Singapore (NUS) has generated and detected quantum entanglement onboard a CubeSat nanosatellite weighing less than 2.6 kg and orbiting Earth. CubeSats are low-resource, cost-effective satellites and are smaller than a shoebox. As a first step, the researchers needed to demonstrate that a miniaturized photon source for quantum entanglement could remain intact through the stress of launch and operate successfully in the harsh
Sensor Uses AI to Obtain Real-Time Images from Satellite Orbit
TOKYO, Jan. 22, 2019 — Researchers at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) have developed a low-cost star tracker and Earth sensor. The star tracker will be used with microsatellites to handle calibration observations, operation verification tests, and long-term...
Hyperspectral Imager Will Communicate Climate Changes from Space
ESPOO, Finland, Dec. 24, 2018 — The photos from a tiny IR hyperspectral camera, taken from aboard a nanosatellite that has now reached space, could provide information useful for managing the effects of climate change. The Reaktor Hello World nanosatellite was launched into space...
Carbon-Nanotube Optics Designed for Space Telescopes
GREENBELT, Md., July 26, 2016 — A lightweight telescope that uses a carbon-nanotube mirror is being designed to fit easily inside a CubeSat, a NASA nanosatellite measuring four inches on one side.
NASA Demos Nanosatellite
Jun 20, 2005 — HOUSTON, June 20 -- Big things can come in small packages, and engineers at NASA's Johnson Space Center are making progress on a tiny spacecraft that holds major promise for future exploration. Work on the volleyball-sized miniature autonomous...
