Optoacoustic Imaging Reveals Scope of Pancreatic Cancer at Early Stage
OKLAHOMA CITY, Feb. 8, 2024 — A new imaging technique could improve survival rates for pancreatic cancer by enabling physicians to detect the full extent of the disease in its early stages. The technique pairs a contrast agent with multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) to identify pancreatic cancer cells at the microscopic level, at approximately 10 times more magnitude than what is currently possible. The research is led by professor Lacey McNally and professor Ajay Jain, MD, at the University of
Superresolution on the SPOT: Imaging Achieves Optical Sectioning
SYDNEY, Nov. 19, 2020 — A technique called SPOT (spectrum and polarization optical tomography) is providing researchers with a “street view” of lipid membranes surrounding cell organelles, thereby allowing insight into lipid dynamics. The work is the result of...
Harmonic Optical Tomography Images Nonlinear Samples in 3D
CHAMPAIGN, Ill., June 10, 2020 — Harmonic optical tomography (HOT) is a new technique for imaging microscopic, nonlinear, and inhomogeneous objects. It uses holographic information to generate 3D images of the sample. It is the result of a collaboration between researchers at the...
OSA Establishes Feld Biophotonics Award
WASHINGTON, April 11, 2012 — To honor professor Michael Feld’s fundamental contributions in the fields of laser science and applied physics for solving biomedical problems, The Optical Society and the OSA Foundation have established the Michael S. Feld Biophotonics Award. OSAF...
Tom Cruise Wants to Read Your Mind
Mar 16, 2010 — Hollywood has a long, tangled history with science, with filmmakers calling on it to create strange, frequently dystopic worlds and using it to support surreal or otherwise inexpli...
