Ultraviolet Device Captures Images of Aurora Borealis
An international probe satellite has sent back images of the aurora borealis captured by a UV imaging device manufactured by Netherlands-based
Delft Electronic Products BV. The 20-kg UV imager comprises two cameras, two Earth sensors, a gimbal mechanism, two radiator plates and two electronics boxes. Delft's image intensifier is UV sensitive and amplifies the aurora's UV image. The imager also operates in full sunlight.
