Drexler Has Record Backlog, New Memory Card Order

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 13 -- Drexler Technology Corp. has received a $7.5 million, one-year contract for its LaserCard optical memory cards, which will be used in US government programs, principally at the U.S./Mexico border. The order raises the firm's 12-month backlog to a record 3.5 million optical memory cards.
The US State Department will use two-thirds of the cards ordered for its Laser Visa border-crossing card program in Mexico. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service will use the rest of the cards within the United States as Permanent Resident Cards, commonly referred to as Green Cards.
