Trumpf Expands Facilities in Switzerland

Trumpf Laser Marking Systems AG has opened a 35,500-sq-ft production facility in Switzerland to accommodate the 70 percent increase in orders for marking lasers over the previous year.

The $17.8 million building doubles the company’s current production floor space, enabling all work to be carried out on a single level for easier procedure control and improved manufacturing and logistics processes, the company said.

When planning and erecting the facility, which took just over a year to complete, great attention was given to sustainability. Renewable materials such as wood were selected, and only resources available in abundant quantities — including gravel, limestone and glass — were used in construction. The building also is distinguished by the ergonomically correct design of its workplaces, the company said.

“Grüsch is a major center for the development and production of solid-state lasers,” said Peter Leibinger, vice chair of the Trumpf GmbH + Co. KG and president of the Laser Technology and Electronics Div. “The 10,000 marking lasers already in place give us good reason to look optimistically into the future. The Prättigau area is home to many highly educated and committed employees with excellent skills. That is why we are continuing to expand the site.”
