Wang Named 2015 Britton Chance Award Winner

Lihong Wang, an innovator in photoacoustic imaging, has been chosen to receive the 2015 Britton Chance Biomedical Optics Award.

A researcher at Washington University in St. Louis, Wang is being recognized for his pioneering technical contributions and visionary leadership in the development and application of photoacoustic tomography, photoacoustic microscopy and photon transport modeling, among others. 

Wang was recently awarded a $1.1 million grant from The National Institutes of Health to research imaging of electrical activity of neurons deep inside the brain, as part of the national Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) initiative.

He holds the Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professorship of Biomedical Engineering at WUSTL, and is editor-in-chief of the SPIE Journal of Biomedical Optics. Wang also co-authored Biomedical Optics: Principles and Imaging, which won the 2010 Joseph W. Goodman Book Award.

The 2015 Britton award will be presented during the SPIE Photonics West 2015 conference. Presented annually by SPIE, the award recognizes outstanding lifetime contributions to the field of biomedical optics through the development of innovative, high-impact technologies.
