Jenoptik Sells Non-Optical Metrology Business to Marposs

Jenoptik has sold its non-optical process metrology business to Marposs, which will be taking over all Jenoptik employees at the main site in Peseux, Switzerland, as well as in Ratingen and Ludwigsburg, Germany — in total, 40 employees.

In 2020, Jenoptik generated revenue of about 7 million (around $8.27 million) with process metrology for grinding machines. With the sale, Jenoptik is focusing more strongly on metrology areas in which the group is well positioned on the global market, a press release from the company stated. Jenoptik is divesting smaller, highly specialized, non-optical activities in its light and production division: "We have found a partner and new 'best owner' for the process metrology business in the Marposs Group. As a global supplier and metrology specialist, Marposs offers very good development opportunities for this unit," said Stefan Traeger, Jenoptik president and CEO .

The process measurement technology sold by Jenoptik specifically addresses production optimization and quality assurance in grinding processes, particularly in the automotive industry, Jenoptik said.

Jenoptik recently sold its crystal-growth business to Hellma Materials, bundled in Photonic Sense GmbH. Similar to that transaction, Jenoptik and Marposs have agreed not to disclose details of the transaction or the purchase price.

The transaction is expected to close at the end of July or in early August 2021.
