Clinicians Turn to Unobtrusive Sensors for Patient Monitoring

ADELAIDE, Australia, Aug. 18, 2022 — Researchers at the University of South Australia developed a multimode optical fiber (MMF) sensor array to unobtrusively monitor the movement and vital signs of patients in hospitals and other health care settings. The sensors, which are designed to be embedded in the upper portion of a patient’s mattress, could help prevent falls, reduce bedsore injuries, monitor respiration rates, and otherwise improve health outcomes for patients while reducing the need for manual monitoring. An array of seven MMF cables comprises the smart bed sensor, bundled at the sensor’s input and...Read full article

    ccd camera
A CCD camera, or charge-coupled device camera, is a type of digital camera that utilizes a CCD image sensor to capture and record images. CCD cameras are widely used in various applications, including digital photography, scientific imaging, surveillance, and machine vision. CCD camera suppliers → The key components of a CCD camera include: CCD image sensor: The heart of a CCD camera is the CCD image sensor, which is a semiconductor device consisting of an array of...
    optical fiber
Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, transparent strand or filament made of glass or plastic used for transmitting light signals over long distances with minimal loss of signal quality. It serves as a medium for conveying information in the form of light pulses, typically in the realm of telecommunications, networking, and data transmission. The core of an optical fiber is the central region through which light travels. It is surrounded by a cladding layer that has a lower refractive index than...
    fiber bundle
A rigid or flexible, concentrated assembly of glass or plastic fibers used to transmit optical images or light. See aligned bundle; incoherent bundle.
