GOLETA, Calif., March 25 -- Raytheon's miniature thermal emission spectrometers are playing a key role in NASA's ongoing Mars exploration rover project by examining the mineral composition of the Mars environment. The company said both mini-TES instruments, installed on Spirit and Opportunity, NASA's twin robot geologists, have been operating successfully since the rovers landed on Mars in January. Mini-TES is a compact, high-power sensor that will collect a variety of data on Mars' physical composition and atmosphere, helping scientists to evaluate whether its environment was ever conducive...Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesPhotonics Technologies at the Fore as First James Webb Space Telescope Images ReleasedThe first images from the James Webb Space Telescope are being released today, following an initial release of a “teaser” image July 7, and a subsequent preview image released July 11...Photonics.com 7/12/2022LITE Spectroscopy Resists Light Sources with Phase DemodulationA team at Harbin Institute of Technology led by professor Yufei Ma introduced an approach to phase demodulation of heterodyne light-induced thermoelastic spectroscopy (H-LITES) that uses a...Photonics.com 9/12/2023Terahertz Radiation Boosts Quality Control from Aerospace to PharmaContact-free thickness measurements are increasingly important in industrial process monitoring and quality control.
