Defense, Environment, Health Care in Focus at DCS 2017
Touted as a leading global event in the photonics industry, the 2017 SPIE Defense and Commercial Sensing conference and exhibition — to be held in Anaheim, Calif., April 9-13 — will highlight innovative advances in defense and security sectors, as well as the environmental and health care segments. This annual event offers the opportunity for information exchange, as well as business and professional development.

DCS features two technical tracks — Defense and Security, and Commercial and Scientific Sensing and Imaging. Three focused topical tracks are also scheduled, covering unmanned autonomous systems technology, agriculture components, and fiber optic sensors. Courses, research presentations, and plenary talks will be offered, in addition to the Rising Researchers and SPIE Fellows recognition programs.

Distributed Strain & Temperature Sensor
From: OZ Optics Limited
2009 Frost & Sullivan Award Winning sensor simultaneously measures strain and temperature along the entire fiber length with high-resolution. By wrapping or embedding standard telecom fiber inside a power line/pipeline, users can detect when & where the structure is being strained or heated and correct the problem before failure occurs. It is ideal for monitoring pipelines or power lines. The sensor could also be used in detecting fire and corrosion/erosion.
