Teradyne Acquires PICs Specialist Quantifi Photonics, Celestial AI Plans to Revolutionize AI

Teradyne is acquiring PICs test solutions provider, Quantifi Photonics. Celestial AI raises $250M for the development of its photonic fabric technology. Researchers with the Capasso Group at Harvard say metasurface optics could be key to a better understanding of the aerosols impacting climate change. According to reports from multiple outlets, Samsung is teaming up with Broadcom to further its work on silicon photonics. The U.S. Space Force is awarding BAE Systems $151M to build upon its missile warning capabilities. And a new flat lens from the University of Utah could offer a detailed image of celestial objects, without the bulk of traditional curved lenses. Sponsored by LaCroix Precision Optics.

Metasurface Tech Enables Multiphoton Entanglement
Metasurface Tech Enables Multiphoton Entanglement

Quantum information processing relies on the entanglement of multiple photons to process vast amounts of information. However, creating multiphoton entanglement is a challenging task. Traditional methods either use quantum nonlinear optical processes, which are inefficient for large numbers of photons, or linear beam-splitting and quantum interference, which require complex setups prone to issues like loss and crosstalk.  Read Article

Model Predicts How Hybrid Light-Matter State Increases OLED Efficiency

Lightweight, flexible, and eco-friendly, OLEDs are reshaping the lighting industry with innovative illumination solutions and high-definition displays. However, they continue to be slow at converting electric current into light. Only 25% of the electronic states of organic molecules can emit light upon electrical excitation, which limits the overall efficiency of OLEDs. With only a 25% probability of emitting photons efficiently and rapidly, OLEDs tend to be dimmer than other lighting technologies.  Read Article

Flat Lens with Achromatic Focus Captures Detailed Images of Sun and Moon

A multilevel diffractive lens from the University of Utah could serve as a lightweight alternative to conventional refractive systems for long-range imaging. The large-aperture flat lens focuses light as effectively as traditional curved lenses and captures color accurately. Astrophotography imaging systems could use the lens to acquire images in applications where space is at a premium, such as on aircraft, satellites, and space-based telescopes.  Read Article

Introduction to Imaging Radiometry and FLIR Research Studio
Introduction to Imaging Radiometry and FLIR Research Studio

Thu, Mar 27, 2025 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT
Discover the fascinating world of infrared imaging radiometry! Infrared imaging radiometry involves using an infrared camera to measure the infrared radiation emitted by objects in a scene. Each pixel in an image captured by a radiometrically calibrated camera provides quantitative data. These radiometric images are not just pictures; they are 2D grids of infrared radiation measurements from the scene, typically displayed as temperature per pixel in most commercial applications. During this webinar, Matthew Hasty will explore the fundamentals of infrared technology, how it works, and the various sensor technologies available. The presentation will also touch on radiometric calibration for temperature per pixel. Finally, Hasty will demonstrate how software, particularly FLIR Research Studio, can enhance efficiency and drive scientific discovery for global teams in innovative ways.
