InGaN News
Seeing Red: InGaN Microdisplay Sharpens AR Glasses
CAMBRIDGE, England, Oct. 25, 2021 — A microdisplay developed by University of Cambridge spinout Porotech is expected to accelerate the development and commercialization of augmented reality glasses. The company reports that the microdisplay is the first based on native red indium gallium nitride (InGaN). The display has an active area of 0.55 in. diagonally and a resolution of 960 × 540. Previously it had only been possible to produce blue and green microdisplays with GaN-based LEDs; red emission is reliant on devices
Nitride-Based MicroLED Emits Pure Red Light
THUWAL, Saudi Arabia, May 14, 2021 — A microLED developed at KAUST is able to efficiently emit pure red light and could help in the quest to develop full-color displays based on a single semiconductor. MicroLEDs are a favored technology for next-generation displays, given their (small)...
Theoretical Technique Identifies Defects in LED Materials
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., April 15, 2016 — The discovery and characterization of a specific type of defect in the atomic structure an LED that results in less efficient performance could enable fabrication of even more efficient, longer-lasting light sources. Improving the internal quantum...
Materials Hold Secret to Better LED Performance, Efficiency, Value
May 5, 2014 — There’s little doubt that LEDs save energy, but the high initial cost of LED lamps is preventing mass adoption by lighting consumers. New materials are crucial to driving down the price tag and driving up market acceptance. The price of LEDs...
Indium Upped in Nanowire Solar Cell
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 18, 2012 — Growing an indium mixture on a clump of nanowires rather than on a flat surface boosts the percentage of the energy-absorbing material, potentially broadening the solar spectrum that photovoltaic systems can collect.
Osram Team Feted for Direct Green-emitting Laser
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec., 22, 2010 — Scientists at Osram Opto Semiconductors, based in Regensburg, Germany, have been awarded the Beckurts Prize by the Karl Heinz Beckurts Foundation for developing a direct green-emitting laser. Scientists at Osram Opto Semiconductors today received...
Diode-Pumped Solid-State UV Lasers Improve LED Sapphire Wafer Scribing
Oct 14, 2010 — The green movement, energy conservation efforts and global warming headlines have made the world aware of the need for more energy-efficient lighting alternatives. The range of applications for high-brightness LEDs continues to expand. Laser...
QDs in microcavities advance blue diode lasers
BREMEN, Germany – Newly developed monolithically integrated nitride laser microcavities that incorporate quantum dots (QDs) could be an important step in making better blue and green diode lasers as well as single-photon sources. A team of solid-state physicists at...
Blue LED Order
Apr 12, 2010 — Aixtron AG of Aachen, Germany, has announced that Formosa Epitaxy Inc. of Lung-Tan, Taoyuan, Taiwan, has ordered multiple metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) reactors to be used in the production of ultrahigh-brightness InGaN-based blue...
Taking on Blue Laser Diodes
Mar 29, 2010 — Here is an interesting poster presentation made by participants at the recently held Annual Photonics Workshop 2010 in Cochin, India. One presentation, which caught my eye – wa...
Osram, Everlight Extend Patent Pact
Mar 30, 2009 — Osram of Regensburg, Germany, has extended an existing license with Everlight Electronics of Taiwan for the manufacturing and sales of white and colored LEDs with conversion technology for all applications. These patents are owned by Osram. In...
BridgeLux Adds to Management Team
Aug 17, 2006 — Sunnyvale, Calif.-based BridgeLux Inc. (formerly eLite Optoelectronics), a supplier of energy saving, power-LED chips, announced the addition of Dave Bouras chief scientist, Ghulam Hasnain as a senior scientist and Gloria Fan as chief financial...
OSRAM Develops Blue Thin-Film LEDs
Sep 3, 2003 — SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 3 --OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announced today it has introduced blue thin-film light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which it calls an industry first. OSRAM said the LEDs were developed with its indium gallium nitride-based, ThinGaN...
