Halas Wins Weizmann Women and Science Award
HOUSTON, May 31, 2017 — Professor Naomi Halas at Rice University has won a 2017 Weizmann Women and Science Award from the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel. The biennial award, which was established in 1994, honors internationally renowned women scientists who have made significant contributions, both in their respective fields and to the larger scientific community. The award is designed to promote women in science by providing strong role models to motivate and encourage the next generation of young women
Light-Sensitive Medium Drives Nanoparticle Assembly
REHOVOT, Israel, Sept. 14, 2015 — Light has long been used to trigger self-assembly of nanoparticles. A new approach may be able to achieve the same end more reliably by focusing light on the medium containing the nanoparticles instead of the nanoparticles themselves. The new...
FAMOS aims to make OCT light sources more compact
VIENNA – Optical coherence tomography light sources will shrink to one-fifth the size of conventional devices with the help of a tapered laser being developed by the European Union project FAMOS (Functional Anatomical Molecular Optical Screening). ...

VIENNA – OCT light sources will shrink to one-fifth the size of conventional devices with the help of a tapered laser being developed by the European Union project FAMOS (Functional Anatomical Molecular Optical Screening). Seventeen partners have joined...
FAMOS Aims to Make OCT Light Sources More Compact
VIENNA, March 26, 2013 — Optical coherence tomography (OCT) light sources will shrink to one-fifth the size of conventional devices with the help of a tapered laser being developed by the European Union project FAMOS (Functional Anatomical Molecular Optical Screening).
Quantum Optical Chip Ramps Up Computing
BRISTOL, England, Sept. 16, 2010 — A new approach to computing that uses a quantum optical chip could soon be used to perform complex calculations that cannot be done by today’s computers, according to an international research group led by scientists from the University of...
Molecular Electronics Doped
REHOVOT, Israel, July 30, 2007 -- Recent experiments have shown that the use of doping -- adding small amounts of impurities to the silicon to improve the flow of electricity through a semiconductor -- in molecular electronics could lead to the manufacture of components that are...
