Team Looks to the LWIR to Fabricate Achromatic Metalens
CHANGCHUN, China, May 9, 2022 — Researchers from the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences demonstrated a broadband achromatic metalens with a numerical aperture of 0.32. The demonstration stemmed from a general method, proposed by the same team, to implement a broadband achromatic metalens in the longwave infrared (LWIR) band based on the combination of the dynamic and geometric phases. The researchers said that compared to state-of-the-art
Achromatic X-Ray Lens Opens Pathways in Microscopy, Access to Light Sources
VILLIGEN, Switzerland, May 4, 2022 — Scientists at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) developed an achromatic lens for x-rays that allows x-ray beams to be accurately focused on a single point even if they have different wavelengths. The lens will make it easier to study nanostructures with...
New Approaches Improve Beam Expansion
Mar 7, 2014 — Afocal beam expansion systems based on the basic principles of Kepler and Galileo telescopes can be improved in terms of wavefront quality by using additional optical surfaces or aspherizing them using monolithic beam expansion elements. Everyday...
