Synapse-Like Phototransistor Enables Persistent, Low-Energy Optical Switching
GOLDEN, Colo., May 11, 2021 — Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) created a phototransistor that allows long-lived persistent photoconductivity (PPC), which is a form of optical memory. The new structure is a heterojunction between perovskite semiconductors and carbon nanotubes. The device could enable optical switching with low energy consumption for potential use in sensors and artificial neural networks and in applications such as self-driving
Record-Setting Phototransistor is Flexible and Sensitive
MADISON, Wis., Nov. 3, 2015 — Inspired by mammals' eyes, a record-setting phototransistor could improve the performance of myriad products — from digital cameras, night-vision goggles and smoke detectors to surveillance systems and satellites — that rely on...
Bug Sensors Could Slow Infection, Defend Crops
RIVERSIDE, Calif. and SAO PAULO, Brazil, May 1, 2014 — Better classification of insects in the wild could be a key to protecting crops and halting the spread of diseases. A team from the University of California, Riverside, in collaboration with the University of Sao Paulo and ISCA Technologies, has...
