LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany, Nov. 27, 2007 -- Photonic crystals, which contain properties that give butterfly wings their shimmering colors, are being used to revolutionize the future of telecommunications by making systems smaller, faster and more efficient.     nano
    An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale.
