European photonics manufacturers predict key laser applications

MUNICH, Germany -- Measurement, medicine and machining will be the most important future applications of laser technology, according to a proposal that photonics manufacturers presented to the European Commission's fifth Framework Programme recently. The European Federation of Precision Mechanical and Optical Industries (EUROM) introduced "Laser Technologies for Tomorrow's Needs" at the Laser 97 conference and exhibition.
