Request InfoKrellTechKrell Technologies has introduced its Trig Workstation for processing bare optical fibers. Fiber tips can be polished flat, or at user-selectable angles with high precision. Real-time video monitoring provides accurate control of the shaping process, while an in-line vision system permits inspection of the polished surface while the fiber is loaded in the machine. Interchangeable adapters are available for various fiber types and diameters. Trig also integrates a PM fiber alignment feature for proper angle orientation.See full productRelated content from Photonics MediaPRODUCTSPhotonics.com 3/15/20192D Vision SystemThe APODIUS Vision System 2D from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is a standalone solution for advanced carbon-fiber part inspection. This article provides the basic principles needed to work with this technology.Optical fibers are made from either glass or plastic. Most are roughly the diameter of a human hair, and they may be many miles long. Light is transmitted along the center of the fiber from one end...Photonics HandbookPolarization Mode Dispersion: Concepts and Measurement: The performance of high-speed, digital fiber optic communications systems depends upon how reliably the receiver is able to distinguish closely spaced bits of information. Dispersive effects — physical mechanisms that broaden transmitted pulses — degrade this process. There are three fundamentally different dispersive phenomena in optical fiber, of which polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is the most complex. In digital multimode fiber systems, a light pulse...Photonics HandbookSpectrum Analysis for DWDM: New Instruments Meet the Challenge: The demand for bandwidth drives a growing need for a new breed of test and measurement instruments. As system and cable installers try to optimize their links, the preferred method has become high-speed DWDM. This demand for bandwidth has led to the development of new test and measurement...Photonics HandbookPolarization in Fiber Systems: Squeezing out More Bandwidth: To appease the demand for bandwidth, telecommunication operators are pushed to increase the per-channel data rate of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. As bit rates increase to meet expanding demand, systems have become increasingly sensitive to polarization-related impairments. These include polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical fibers,...WHITEPAPERSPhotonics.com 2/25/2019Effects of Sterilization Methods on Key Properties of Specialty Optical Fibers Used in Medical DevicesOptical fibers with different types of polymer coatings were exposed to three sterilization conditions: multiple autoclaving, treatment with ethylene oxide and treatment with gamma rays.
