Mathematical Approach Deciphers Orbital Angular Momentum Information
GUANGZHOU, China, Aug. 14, 2023 — Researchers from Sun Yat-sen University and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) have made progress in the use of interferometry to decipher orbital angular momentum (OAM) spectrum information. Lightwaves with OAM have become important in technologies including communication, imaging, and quantum information processing. For these to be effective, it’s crucial to know the exact structure of these helical light beams. So far, this has proven difficult.
Polarization-Maintaining Fiber Enables Near-Chirp-Free Pulses
XI’AN, China, Feb. 11, 2022 — A team at Northwestern Polytechnical University (China) has demonstrated near-chirp-free solitons in normal-dispersion, hybrid-structure fiber lasers that contain a few meters of polarization-maintaining fiber. The solitons typically have a...
Lens-Free Fluorescence Microscope to Achieve High Throughput, Resolution
LEUVEN, Belgium, July 5, 2021 — A fluorescence microscope being developed by imec researchers will be able to achieve high throughput and high resolution, without a lens component. The technology could significantly speed up next-generation DNA sequencing and cellular research, as...
Deterministic Approach Reduces Error Potential in Freeform Design Process
BRUSSELS, May 26, 2021 — Researchers at Brussels Photonics (B-PHOT), Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium developed a deterministic direct optical design method for freeform imaging systems. The method is based on differential equations derived from Fermat’s principle...
Laser-based Method Derives Data from Disordered Media
