Algorithms Enhance Imaging Techniques for Breast Cancer Diagnosis
ATLANTA, Feb. 11, 2014 — A study suggests that tomosynthesis, a technique that can produce pseudo 3-D reconstructions, could top traditional mammography in breast cancer screening and detection. Researchers at Emory University have found that digital tomosynthesis imaging offers more sensitivity and specificity than mammography in breast cancer screening. “Currently, mammography is the technique used most often … but since it gives only 2-D projection information of a 3-D anatomical structure,
Replacing Mammography with Light and Ultrasound
ENSCHEDE, Netherlands, Oct. 24, 2013 — A new device called a photoacoustic mammoscope combines infrared light and ultrasound to create 3-D maps of the breast. Its creators hope that it could someday replace the x-rays used in traditional mammography for routine breast cancer screenings....
Molecular Breast Imaging
ROCHESTER, Minn., Sept. 5, 2008 – Researchers have found a way to “light up” cancer hiding in dense breast tissue. In the largest-ever study to compare molecular breast imaging (MBI) to mammography, researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., have shown that MBI can detect...

Study: More Data Needed on Digital Mammography
Jun 11, 2003 — LANSING, Mich., June 11 -- There is not enough evidence that digital mammography is better than standard screen film mammography for the early detection of breast cancer, according to new research by 12 members of The Michigan Cancer Consortium...
